This weekend Lou and I did a road trip to Montreal to watch the Canadians play the Penguins, and to have a little getaway from Ottawa. The city is such a fun vibrant place to see, and there’s inspiration on every corner. I really took to a little bakery that had people lining up for moustache breads in support of movember. It was such a simple yet great idea that I thought I’d better bake something with a moustache. Here’s a picture of my moustache brownies.

The best part about being knowledgeable with pastries is that you automatically get assigned to making everyone’s birthday cake. This weekend I got a request for a chocolate, hazelnut and strawberry gateaux. I decided to borrow a chocolate and vanilla cake recipe from the Miette cookbook, which turned out pretty delicious. I topped it off with a Choco-hazelnut French buttercream, and a strawberry rose. Birthday cakes are an ancient tradition that date back to roman times, and are celebrated in most cultures today. It’s my pleasure to keep the tradition alive, and ever growing..
